OPI and DAM - Friend or Foe

One question that often comes up in projects centered around creative collaboration in graphic design is where OPI (Open Prepress Interface) and DAM can play together. (More info on OPI)
A not dissimilar issue arises in video where low res editing is becoming an option and web based rough cuts become the norm.

Digital Media Production and Distribution Automation

I hear that there is a large number of companies, who are not involved in the media production business, that are simply bombarded with the growing amounts of audio and video content that they must manage. How are these folks (typically marketers) linking the studio to the broadcast booth? Are they even managing the process?

Video On Demand: Distribution is Key

15 years ago I remember taking one small step, though it seemed giant at the time. I downloaded a postage stamp sized black and white clip of the moon landing to my Windows 3.11 desktop which took up a good chunk of the 100 meg harddisk. 12 seconds of Neil's crackling transmission barely decipherable through the 2" PC speaker.  Today's G-search resulted in over 1m hits for NASA moon landing, whose video results whisked me off to a 2 minute full screen clip with crystal clear audio of the historic moment. (BTW, today NASA broadcasts 15 live feeds in 4 formats  here)

Trends in Video to Web

Distribution of video over the web has reached its tipping point.

All social network video consumption aside, there is a massive trend in pushing video to the web. Television networks are doing it, educational institutions are doing it, certainly advertisers and agencies are doing it. Even the Whitehouse is doing it.
