Reducing Cost and Time to Market with Media Production Efficiencies

[Originally posted in Digital Trends Jan. 2008]
It is widely known that process management in manufacturing environments leads   to a variety of benefits that result in dramatic resource savings and a higher quality of product. Wikipedia states that “a cornerstone of Manufacturing Process Management (MPM) is the central repository for manufacturing data   management.”

This sounds familiar, right? DAM 101.

If we apply MPM (or more specifically BPM) practices to digital media repositories, it is predictable that similar savings in resources, as well as improvements in quality, can be attained. The end result is reduced costs of media production and reduced launch cycles.  Further, these efficiencies will present new opportunities for exploring alternative media strategies and allow more rapid response to changing markets.  Or you can just pocket the savings, happy about doing more with less.

Establishing a Media Assembly line is easy when you’ve got a world class digital asset management system in place that includes world class process management.  Automating the digital media supply chain can present dramatic changes in the way you think about that next campaign, product launch, or simply keeping   current with changes in the product line.
